Buying

Our experience has taught us that it is key to understand, early on, how you are going to use your motorhome or campervan, as this can greatly assist in selecting the right vehicle.

For example - who is going to be using it? A couple, a family? Do you have a pet? Will you need an oven? Do you want to use a shower in the vehicle? - These are just a few of the key questions to ask …

If you’ve owned a motorhome before then you are probably already aware of these things but they could determine something as simple as how many belted travelling seats you need! Or how much storage space you need to carry your belongings. There is a lot to consider that you may not have already considered!

This is where we can help you, so please contact us and we will share our experience.

As a buyer, when you are looking for a motorhome or camper van through Life of Leisure we will

  • provide a detailed photo file and videos of each vehicle, showing it ‘warts and all’ so that there are no nasty surprises when you travel to a viewing, saving you time from wasted journeys.

  • consider a part exchange vehicle that you may have and make you an offer to purchase it (subject to inspection).

  • arrange a convenient appointment time for you to view the vehicle with us.

    And after viewing if you buy one of our vehicles we can

  • arrange 14 days free insurance (subject to t & c’s) with Caravan Guard. This can enable you to drive away the vehicle on the same day as viewing, once you have paid

  • carry out a handover process to show you the functionality of the vehicle

  • arrange for the change of keeper to be recorded with DVLA

  • help you tax the vehicle before you drive it away

    And if we do not currently have a vehicle for sale that you are interested in now we could

  • Discuss your requirements with you and update you when/if a suitable vehicle becomes available

  • Buy your motorhome now if you need to sell one or want to be in a cash buying position when/if a suitable vehicle becomes available

  • Put you in touch with our finance partners to pre-arrange funding in readiness for buying

Selling

We suggest you ask yourself these three questions:

  1. Do I want/need to sell quickly and put cash in the bank straight away?

  2. Should I try to sell my motorhome privately so that I get more for it?

  3. Are there any other options?

  1. We can make you an immediate cash offer for your motorhome or camper van. This will initially just involve a discussion about the vehicle, its history etc., and if a deal can be agreed in principle we will either arrange an appointment to collect the vehicle or you can bring it to our premises. In either event we will carry out an inspection to ensure that the vehicle is as described and then, all being well, we will transfer the agreed funds into your nominated bank account; simple and no hassle.

  2. The main benefit of selling privately is that it should enable you to achieve a higher price than selling immediately for cash. However, you do need to consider these points:

    In order to attract the most interest you will need to:

    Pay up front for advertising -only using the free websites/publications severely limits your access to buyers

    Take photographs - what should you actually show in your advert?

    Deal with telephone calls and/or emails - how do you know who you are dealing with?

    Sift out the time wasters and scammers - is the person a serious buyer?

    Arrange for people to view the vehicle - will they turn up? are they genuine?

    Show them the vehicle - if they turned up will you ever hear from them again? Will a viewer respect Covid safety guidance?

    Negotiate an acceptable price - are you good at negotiating? Will you get what it’s worth?

    Hand over your bank details to a stranger so that you get paid - How will you know your buyer isn’t a scammer?

    And before you even start trying to sell privately how do you know what the best price is that you can expect to achieve?

    Sale or Return might well be the best solution if you do not want to sell immediately for cash, as it eliminates all but one of the items of concern in selling privately, the most important one - obtaining the best price! And there are no costs to you ; it’s No Sale - No fee

    Our simple step-by-step Sale or Return process goes like this:

    After an initial telephone conversation with you we appraise your motorhome’s value using industry data and conducting market research. We will then present this to you so that you know what price is achievable using all of our professional resources.

    Once terms have been agreed we will then either arrange for you to bring your motorhome to us or we will collect from you - you choose. Once we have looked over the motorhome with you, we exchange paperwork (Identification etc.), give you a formal agreement including the vehicle details, your details, our details and this becomes the basis of our instruction to act on your behalf. WE DO NOT TAKE ANY BANK DETAILS UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS SOLD.

    We will then:

    Prepare the vehicle for sale and take photographs

    Draft a description for our advert, upload the photographs and send you a link to it on our website so that you check it

    Upon receiving your approval we will then upload the advert to the major advertising portals that give your vehicle the widest exposure to buyers

    When buyers enquire we will handle their questions and find out how serious they are

    We will find out if they are in a position to buy, and

    - If they have a vehicle to part-exchange we will appraise it and make an offer to buy it

    - put them in touch with our finance team if they require a quote for finance

    Arrange an appointment for a buyer to view the vehicle

    Once sale terms are agreed with a buyer we will then ask you for bank details, transfer the money to you and then deal with the change of keeper details with DVLA

    NB we often find that a buyer will want to drive away in the vehicle on the day of the viewing and we can arrange free insurance cover with Caravan Guard to enable this, assuming the vehicle has been paid for

    So, in summary, we do all the work in a professional, safe and secure way that is free!

    b) Our Brokerage service

    Using our brokerage service means that the vehicle stays with you at your home or place where it is stored. Like ‘Sale or Return’ it is a great solution if you do not want to sell immediately for cash, as it eliminates all but one of the items of concern in selling privately, the most important one - obtaining the best price!     Upon receiving your approval we will then upload the advert to the major advertising portals that give your vehicle the widest exposure to buyers

    When buyers enquire we will handle their questions and find out how serious they are

    We will find out if they are in a position to buy, and

    - If they have a vehicle to part-exchange we will appraise it and make an offer to buy it

    - put them in touch with our finance team if they require a quote for finance

    Arrange an appointment with you for us to meet a buyer to view the vehicle. We will conduct the viewing wherever the vehicle is being kept and answer all the buyer’s questions

    Once sale terms are agreed with a buyer we will then ask you for bank details, transfer the money to you and then deal with the change of keeper details with DVLA

    NB we often find that a buyer will want to drive away in the vehicle on the day of the viewing and we can arrange free insurance cover with Caravan Guard to enable this, assuming the vehicle has been paid for
